Akumin Paramedic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Paramedic holds shift accountability for providing care to patients by utilizing the Medical Emergency Management Plan in accordance with the state medical policies and procedures. The registered Paramedic demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment and leadership in the anticipation and planning for safe delivery of care; maintains clinical competencies through continuing education; delegates patient care priorities commensurate with the education and experience of the staff available; provides assistance with patient care preparation.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Greeting patients and visitors in a courteous and helpful manner;

  • Escorting patients to patient dressing rooms and instructing the patient how to dress out for their procedure.

  • Explaining exam procedures to patients as needed.

  • Starting IV access on patients as needed using universal protection equipment and aseptic techniques

  • Properly disposing of contaminated medical supplies in the biohazard waste containers.

  • Restock scan rooms with linen and contrast. Empty and replace linen bags as needed.

  • Restock IV room and O2 tank.

  • Unload supply boxes when they arrive. Report any shortages of supplies to Chief Tech.

  • Replace robes on hangers making sure dirty robes are placed in special linen bag for dry

  • cleaning. Check dressing rooms for cleanliness, clearing used gowns. Restock gowns in cabinet.

  • Make sure saline flushes are ready for the next day.

  • Assist Technologist with patient requests as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinic Administrator

Position Requirements:

  • High School graduation or GED equivalent.

  • Paramedics/EMT License

  • ACLS and BLS Required

  • Working knowledge of first aid.

  • Ability to learn the operation of fire suppression and other emergency equipment.

  • Ability to perform strenuous or peak physical activities during emergency

  • Ability to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the general public.

  • Ability to make independent judgments which have considerable impacts on the organization.

  • Familiarity with current software packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.

  • Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to chemicals.
